TRIBUTE VIDEO TO FAMILIES OF VICTIMS – FUNDRAISER

THE GOOD WORD will be donating 100% of the profits from our very special print edition coming out in January.   How can you help?

Sandy Hook School Shooting in Newtown, Connecticut. Sandy Hook Elementary school shooting was and is a devastating occurrence to those directly and indirectly affected. Kimberley Deutsch, Creative Architect, has donated countless hours developing this video, organizing the fundraiser, research, and distribution of its release to multiple news stations and even Oprah Winfrey.  THE GOOD WORD applauds her efforts.

In this video, a collaboration of what’s to be found on the net has been created as an impacting, heartfelt video. Imagery has been optimized to its potential and links to donate are provided on this page.

Kimberley felt moved by this occurrence and even more-so because it was so close to home. This event should not bring to light the individual allegedly responsible. Let’s only take this time to reflect on the ones affected in the most positive way possible and gather to help these families in this unimaginable time of despair.

Here Comes Winter, Don’t Forget Hurricane Sandy Victims

The Red Cross continues to focus on reaching as many people as possible who need our help. Your help is urgently needed to continue to support relief efforts. Getting supplies and meals and water into affected areas is the top priority. Since the beginning of the Sandy relief effort:

  • Nearly 9,000 Red Cross workers have been deployed from all 50 states to operations from North Carolina to Rhode Island, with the majority still in Greater New York and throughout New Jersey.
  • Last night, more than 1,900 people impacted by Sandy and the Nor’easter spent the night in 16 shelters in the following states: NY and NJ.
  • More than 6 million meals and snacks have been served.
  • The Red Cross has distributed more than 2 million relief items such as clean-up kits and hygiene kits.

Please donate today. Financial donations make the greatest and most immediate impact, helping the Red Cross provide shelter, food, emotional support and other assistance to those affected by disasters like Hurricane Sandy.

Each year, the American Red Cross immediately responds to about 70,000 natural and man-made disasters in the U.S., ranging from fires to hurricanes, floods, earthquakes, tornadoes, hazardous materials spills, transportation accidents and explosions.

Heating Comparison Chart

Hi, my name is Steve Schappert and I have been studying alternative energy for years, I am a building analyst by trade. I have designed and shipped zero energy buildings as far as Germany and I have spent a great deal of time  teaching energy efficiency.  I have taught elementary school students, high school, college classes on sustainable business practices, and recently a 4 hour masters class at Yale  Peabody on Advances in Science Education.

Why I like Ductless Mini Splits: I learned about ductless mini splits when designing The Bios Center, a 15,000 green living expo. We were going to install geothermal but then I came across some info on ductless mini split heat pumps, the units I was looking at had a SEER rating of 20 and the geothermal was 16.  Geothermal was going to cost $325,000 and the mini splits were only $60,000, honestly it was  a “No Brainer”, gas and oil furnaces were about $190,000, high efficiency air heat pumps were $250,000. While there is an inherent savings by using heat from the ground, I did the math, the payback for spending 5 times as much for geothermal was 1432 years. NOTHING and I mean nothing comes close to the affordability of ductless mini split heat pumps when you consider the total installation & operating costs.

Halloween Hay Bale Theater

Every Friday night in October, the Danbury store’s Hoedown is transformed into a Hay Bale Theater to show a free children’s Halloween-themed movie. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.

The movies begin at 6:00 P.M., with seating opening at 5:45 P.M.: October 5, 2012: Scooby-Doo! and the Legend of the Vampire October 12, 2012: Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit October 19, 2012: Dora’s Halloween Adventure October 26, 2012: Monster House

Halloween Hayride Spooktacular

This is a family-friendly hayride that weaves through the Danbury store’s pumpkin patch. The maiden hayride takes place on Saturday, September 22, 2012 and runs through Wednesday, October 31, 2012. Hours of operation are: Monday through Friday: 3:00 P.M. until Dusk Weekends: 10:30 A.M. until Dusk

Trick-or-Treat with the Stew Leonard’s Characters

On Thursday, October 25, 2012 from 4:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M., children are invited to dress in their costumes and come to Stew Leonard’s in Danbury to go trick or treating throughout the store. Each department in the store will have a candy station for kids to stop at. Children can come with their own bags or Stew Leonard’s will provide one for them. Stew Leonard’s famous characters, including mascot Wow the Cow, will be available for taking photos with the children.

Halloween Day Trick or Treat

On Halloween day, Wednesday, October 31, children who come to Stew Leonard’s in Danbury in their costumes will receive a free ice cream.
